Along with our comprehensive concussion management program, we are offering online ImPACT baseline testing for our pediatric patients. We recommend all our patients start at age 11 to take the ImPACT test every two years. The test is used to establish a baseline for future use in helping to determine the best post-concussion treatment if your child should be injured in a sport or non-sporting event.

ImPACT is a 20 minute computerized test that measures brain processing such as speed, memory and visual motor skills. ImPACT does not diagnose a concussion, but informs the provider if there is a change in the way your child’s brain functions after an injury.

1. You will use the “click here” link in step #10 below to pay for the test, but first read all instructions #2-9.

2. After you pay for the test, you will receive an email with 2-3 days with the “code” to start the test.

3. When you receive the “code” and are ready to test your child, click on the following link  www.impacttestonline.com/testing

4. Enter the customer code emailed to you.

5. Select “Pediatric Healthcare Associates”

6.  Review this page before starting the test to create an ideal testing situation:

  • Test when your pre-teen or teenager is calm, rested and awake (hard with a teenager to get all three – but do your best.)
  • Test when your child has had 8 hours of sleep – sleep is important.
  • Test when you know there is a 30 minute time frame available with no interruptions.
  • If your child takes ADD or ADHD medicine, make sure your child takes this medication before the test.
  • Remove all phones, pets, friends, radios, ipods, text devices from the room.
  • Make sure the TV is off and the room is quiet of any distracting sounds.
  • The computer must have a traditional mouse.  Trackballs and touch pads will not provide accurate results.
  • If you are taking your exam on a laptop computer, make sure it is plugged into an electrical outlet and is not running on battery power.
  • Please close any applications other than ImPACT that are currently running on the computer.

7. Please help your child with Section 1 and 2 – where the child types in information about his/her history

8. When you get to Section 3, the parent cannot help once the test begins, but please give your child these tips before you leave the room:

  • There are parts of the test where you can go as slow as you would like and parts that tell you to go as fast as you can — follow directions.
  • Be sure your child understands where the right and left buttons are on your mouse.
  • Be sure to follow instructions carefully when at the numbers’ section — you must count backwards not forwards.
  • Most important – read directions carefully on each section.

9. You will be called if there are any issues with your child’s test results.

10. Now, click here to pay for the test. Please re-read Step #6 to 8 before you give your child the test.
